Ian Newrick

Role: Business and Sales Development.

Length of service: Initially 2015-2018 and then rejoined in 2024.

What are your expert areas? I’m a very sociable and likeable person, and enjoy nothing more than spending time with people.  Listening and learning are the best way to start when you’re trying to help someone.

Background? Where did you grow up? Schools? What were you doing before working at Whitby Morrison? I studied at Sandbach School and grew up in the town, crossing paths with many of the current Whitby team as we all grew up. Before joining the team I worked in in the Mobile Phone industry as part of a sales team, as well as other areas including security.  I also helped people with basic English and Reading skills as part of another role I had.

What are the values that you share with Whitby Morrison?  Listening to others, being open to ideas and sharing a passion to deliver the very best result.

If you could add one thing to the Whitby Morrison Office, what would it be? Somewhere to escape and relax every now and then would be wonderful, although probably not the best solution when building vans!

If you could snap your fingers and become an expert in something, what would it be? I’d love to have a greater understanding of electrics, and be able to offer solutions to everyone.  Maybe one day?!

What’s one thing most people don’t know about you? I have flown a plane (legally)

When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up? Like lots of young children I wanted to be a Policeman, I liked the idea of fast car chases!

Who would play you in a movie about your life? If he was still alive, John Candy would have been an ideal match.

What would we most likely find you doing on the weekend? Spending time with my son Jaxon, watching football with him and taking my partner Laura out for something to eat.

Are you a dog person or a cat person (or neither)? Cat, I like their individuality and predatory instinct.

What’s your favourite sport to watch, and which team do you support?  Liverpool due to spending a lot of my time living in the area when I was younger.

What do you like most about your job? I enjoy being out on the road, meeting new people and learning about their business.  No two days are the same.

What are your hobbies? I love cooking and learning new ways with food.

What is your favourite film? Man on Fire is a great film.

What is your favourite food?  If I had to choose one, it’d be Indian. I hope to visit the country in the not too distant future.

Favorite quote?  What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.

I will never be seen without? A smile on my face, I always try to be happy and positive around everyone.

What is Whitby Morrison? It feels like home to me, it’s a place I enjoy spending my working life.  I feel like if I want to grow, the company will grow with me, and vice versa.
